According to local reports at the end of May 2008, Danube Building Materials is set to invest AED 50 million (approximately US$13.6 million) in a new building materials facility in Ajman.
The facility is expected to supply construction materials to high profile developments in the emirate, including Emirates Commercial City, Ajman Eye City, Al Helio Downtown, Al Zorah Beach Project, Marmouka City, Wafi City and Ajman International Airport, along with other UAE projects.
The Danube Contracting Co subsidiary won the contract for the project, said to be worth between US$4 million and US$5.4 million. M Sirajuddin has been appointed Project Manager.
The new plant will cover over 1100 sq m in Ajman's Al Jarf area and should be completed within six months.
As the demand for top grade building materials continues to drive up regional construction costs – reportedly by around 30% in the past year alone – Danube wants to establish a new hub to add to its factories in China, Bahrain and the UAE.
Plywood, timber, laminates, veneers, sanitary fittings, hardware, ironmongery, aluminium and glass will be manufactured in bulk.
